Virtues & Benefits
This powerful supplication asks Allah for several key qualities vital for enduring any hardship and for spiritual growth. Asking for patience ('sabr') and contentment ('rida') with His divine plan helps us accept challenges without complaint. The request for love and longing to meet Allah ('hubb liqa'ik' and 'shawq ila liqa'ik') elevates our spiritual aspiration, turning our gaze towards the Hereafter. Crucially, it asks for assistance in remembering Allah, being grateful, and worshipping Him perfectly, which are the very aims of this blessed journey, helping to reframe homesickness as an opportunity for deeper connection.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say: 'O Allah, I ask You for patience, and I ask You for contentment with Your decree, and humility in times of ease, and longing to meet You, and I seek refuge in You from misguidance in times of ease and hardship.' (Some versions include: and love for meeting You, and that You help me in remembering You, and thanking You, and worshipping You in the best manner.)
