رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah wa fil-akhirati hasanah wa qina 'adhaban-nar
When to Read
This powerful supplication is a cornerstone for pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah. It should be recited frequently during your Tawaf (circumambulating the Ka'bah) and Sa'i (walking between the hills of Safa and Marwah). Make it a consistent part of your duas as you engage in these vital acts of worship, seeking Allah's acceptance of your pilgrimage.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart. Face the Ka'bah during Tawaf and turn towards the Qiblah if possible during Sa'i, though the primary focus is the internal state of seeking Allah's pleasure. Raising your hands is permissible during Tawaf (especially on the steps of Safa and Marwah) though not strictly required for every recitation. Focus on the meaning of asking for both worldly and otherworldly goodness, and protection from the Fire, integrating it seamlessly into your worship.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua, found in the Quran (Al-Baqarah 2:201), encapsulates the ultimate request of a believer: well-being in this life and salvation in the next. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ often recited this dua. By making it a central part of your Tawaf and Sa'i, you are asking Allah to bless your entire pilgrimage, purifying your intentions and actions, and seeking His mercy to overlook your shortcomings. It's a way of encompassing all good and warding off all evil through His infinite grace.
