Dua for a Accepted Hajj (Hajj Mabrur)

Hajj & Umrah
Sahih HadithSilsilah al-Ahadith al-Sahihah 1076

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ حَجِّي حَجًّا مَبْرُورًا، وَسَعْيِي سَعْيًا مَشْكُورًا، وَذَنْبِي ذَنْبًا مَغْفُورًا

O Allah, make my Hajj a righteous Hajj, my efforts appreciated, and my sins forgiven.

Allahumma'jal hajjī hajjā mabroorā, wa sa'yī sa'yan mashkūrā, wa dhanbī dhanbā maghfoorā

When to Read

This is a beautiful and comprehensive dua that can be made before, during, and after Hajj. You can recite it frequently throughout your journey, especially during the rites of Hajj like Tawaf and Arafat, and when making supplications generally. It encapsulates the core aspirations of any pilgrim: acceptance of their Hajj, recognition of their efforts, and forgiveness of their sins.

How to Read

Make this dua with sincerity and a humble heart, turning to Allah (SWT) with full hope in His mercy. Raise your hands if possible, especially at places like Muzdalifah or during the last third of the night. Focus on the meaning of each word and truly ask Allah to grant you these profound blessings. It's not just about reciting the words, but about feeling the earnest desire for your Hajj to be truly accepted.

Virtues & Benefits

The ultimate goal of Hajj is its acceptance by Allah (SWT). A 'Hajj Mabrur' is one that is performed with sincerity, following the Sunnah, avoiding sinful speech and actions, and then being accepted by Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'And a Hajj Mabrur has no reward except Paradise.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 1773, Sahih Muslim 1349). This dua directly asks for that blessed status, seeking the immense reward of Paradise. It also encompasses seeking appreciation for the strenuous efforts involved in Hajj and, critically, the forgiveness of sins, which is a primary objective of this great act of worship.

Source & Authentication

Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'The Mujahid fights for the sake of Allah, and the pilgrim who fights for the sake of Allah is also fighting. For if he is killed, he will be alive with his Lord and receive sustenance from Him. If he is drowned, his reward is two folds, or he is smitten by the serpent, his reward is two folds, or he dies on his bed in his lodging, his reward is equivalent to that of a martyr. And Allah is near his servant when he performs Hajj, and when he performs 'Umrah, and 'Umrah to the next 'Umrah is an expiation for whatever happened between them. And Hajj Mabrur has no reward except Paradise.' (Sunan Ibn Majah 2892, graded Sahih by Al-Albani). The specific wording of the dua is found in other collections like Al-Mu'jam al-Kabir.
