O Allah! Guide me and make clear to me the right way. And guide the Ummah of Muhammad (peace be upon him) with mercy, and conclude for me from You with goodness, and for the Ummah of Muhammad with goodness. O Allah! I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and richness.
Allahumma ihdini wa bayyin li rushdi, wahdi ummata Muhammadin rahmatan, wakhtim li minka bil-khayri, wa li ummati Muhammadin bil-khayri. Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.
When to Read
This dua is particularly potent on Friday, a day blessed with special hours for acceptance. You can recite it after the obligatory prayers, during the time between the Friday khutbah (sermon) and prayer, or even at the time of 'Asr prayer on Friday, which is considered by many scholars to be a time when duas are answered.
How to Read
Recite with sincere intention, focusing on the well-being and guidance of your loved ones. Begin by supplicating for yourself, as the Prophet ﷺ taught us to start with ourselves. Raise your hands as you make dua, as is the Sunnah. You can place your right hand on your chest, over your heart, to direct the sincerity of your supplication. Utter the words with humility and conviction, reflecting on the meaning of each phrase.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua encompasses seeking Allah's guidance and clarity for yourself, a vital first step in being able to help others. It extends this supplication to the entire Ummah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, demonstrating our concern for the wider Muslim community. Asking Allah to 'conclude for me from You with goodness, and for the Ummah of Muhammad with goodness' is a profound request for a righteous end to our lives and the collective journey of Muslims. The second part of the dua is a powerful request for four essential qualities: guidance (Huda), piety (Tuqa), chastity (Afaf), and contentment/richness (Ghina), which benefit both this life and the Hereafter for you and your loved ones.

It was narrated from Abdullah bin Mas'ud that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to supplicate: 'Allahumma ihdini wa bayyin li rushdi, wahdi ummata Muhammadin rahmatan, wakhtim li minka bil-khayri, wa li ummati Muhammadin bil-khayri. Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.' (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 6306, includes similar wording in its discussion of guidance). The narrator said: 'And the Prophet ﷺ used to teach us to seek refuge in Allah from the evil of what is in our souls and from the evil of our deeds.' This narration is a Hasan Hadith in Sunan Ibn Majah (3839).
