اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful, and keep me independent of what You have made unlawful, and enrich me with Your grace, making me independent of all save You.
Allahumma-kfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak
When to Read
This dua is particularly potent when recited on the Day of Jumu'ah, a blessed day. It can be recited at any time, but focusing on it on Friday, perhaps after the Asr prayer or before breaking the fast (if one is fasting on Thursdays/Fridays), can amplify its effect, seeking Allah's help to manage and clear debts through lawful means.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, believing in Allah's ability to answer. Raise your hands slightly, as if humbly asking for a favour. Focus on the meaning of the words, understanding that you are asking Allah to provide you with the means to live a life free from the burden of debt and independent of others through His bounty.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication directly asks Allah for two crucial things: sufficiency through lawful provision and independence from neediness of creation. It's a comprehensive request for financial well-being that prioritizes that which is permissible, thereby protecting one from falling into unlawful means of earning or incurring further debt. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his companion Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was facing difficulty repaying his debts, and it is a powerful means of seeking Allah's assistance.
Source & Authentication
Narrated Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught me these words and promised that if I had the equivalent of the mountain of Sar (a mountain in Yemen) in debt, Allah would pay it off for me. He said: 'Say, O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful, and keep me independent of what You have made unlawful, and enrich me with Your grace, making me independent of all save You.'
