When to Read
This simple yet profound dua is recommended to be recited after the Jumu'ah prayer, specifically after the obligatory prayers and before engaging in other activities. The time after Jumu'ah is a blessed one, and invoking Allah with sincere supplication during this period holds great merit.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a hopeful heart. It's a direct plea to Allah for salvation from hellfire. You can raise your hands slightly, as is customary in some supplications, though it's not strictly required for this specific dua. The key is heartfelt remembrance and seeking refuge with the Almighty.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us this dua, highlighting its immense significance. In the narration, it states that whoever recites this dua six times after the Asr prayer on Friday, Allah will decree that he be saved from hellfire for that week. While the hadith specifies after Asr on Friday, its essence of seeking refuge from the Fire makes it a powerful invocation to make at any opportune moment, including after Jumu'ah, especially when one reflects on the blessings of the day.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in Zad al-Ma'ad that whoever says after the Asr prayer on Friday: 'O Allah, save me from the Fire' (six times), Allah will decree that he be saved from it for that week. It was narrated by Abu Dawud with a chain containing Muhammad ibn Ishaaq and others, who said that 'Abdullah ibn al-Harith heard it from Abul-Malahiq, and that he had heard it from the Prophet (peace be upon him).
