Dua for Protection from the Fire on Friday

Friday / Jumuah
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6306

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and from the punishment of the Fire, and from the trials of life and death, and from the evil of the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal).

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhab al-qabr, wa min 'adhab an-nar, wa min fitnat al-mahya wal-mamat, wa min sharri fitnat al-Masihi ad-Dajjal.

When to Read

This profound supplication is highly recommended for recitation after the Tashahhud (the final sitting) in the prayer, particularly on Friday. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to seek refuge with Allah from these specific evils, and Friday is a blessed day for seeking forgiveness and making dua. Making this a habit after every prayer, especially on Friday, reinforces our reliance on Allah for protection.

How to Read

Recite this dua earnestly after completing the final Tashahhud and before the Tasleem (salutation of peace). Raise your hands slightly if you wish, as is permissible during supplication in prayer, and focus your heart on seeking Allah's protection. The intention should be to earnestly seek refuge from these dire punishments and trials.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses seeking refuge from four significant evils: the torment of the grave, the torment of the Hellfire, the trials of this life and the hereafter, and the evil of the Dajjal. By consistently reciting it, we are actively seeking Allah's divine protection against the most terrifying punishments and trials, both seen and unseen. The Prophet ﷺ emphasized its importance by teaching it to his companions as a crucial part of their supplication within the prayer, demonstrating its immense value in safeguarding us on the Day of Judgment.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): Allah's Messenger ﷺ used to teach us in the prayer, saying, 'When one of you finishes the second (Rak'a) and says Tashahhud, he should say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and from the punishment of Hellfire, and from the trials of life and death, and from the evil of the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal).' Then he may say whatever he likes.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6306)
