Dua for Protection from the Day of Judgment's Terrors on Friday

Friday / Jumuah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 588

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hell, and from the punishment of the grave, and from the trials of life and death, and from the evil of the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal).

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhabi jahannama wa min 'adhabi al-qabri wa min fitnatil mahya wal mamat wa min sharri fitnatil masihid dajjal.

When to Read

This profound dua is particularly potent when recited on Friday, a day blessed with unique spiritual opportunities. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to seek refuge in Allah from the gravest terrors during the week's most virtuous day. It is most effective to recite it after the Tashahhud in the final sitting of prayer, before the tasleem (salutation).

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere focus and a heartfelt plea. Ensure your pronunciation is clear, focusing on each word as a supplication to your Creator. The act of seeking refuge signifies a deep reliance on Allah's protection against the formidable challenges that await humanity. Reciting it within your obligatory prayers, especially on Friday, amplifies its spiritual weight.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking refuge in Allah from the punishment of Hell, the grave, and the trials of life and death, especially the Dajjal's ordeal, is one of the most comprehensive pleas for safety one can make. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself made this dua frequently. Reciting it on Friday, a day when supplications are often accepted, is a wise act. It shows a deep awareness of the hereafter and a proactive effort to secure one's spiritual well-being against the most fearsome tribulations.

Source & Authentication

‘Abdullah ibn 'Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to teach them this invocation in the same way as he used to teach them a Surah from the Qur'an. He would say: 'Say: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the torment of Hell, and from the torment of the grave, and from the trial of the Dajjal, and from the trial of life and death (i.e. His saying): O Allah, I seek refuge in You from a sin and a debt.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you often seek refuge from debt.' He said: 'A man, when he is in debt, tells lies and breaks his promise, and when he speaks, the word of his lie comes out, and he breaks his promise.' – Sahih Muslim 588
