O Allah, guide me to the best of characters, for none can guide to the best of them except You, and turn me away from bad characters, for none can turn away from bad them except You.
Allahumma ihdini li ahsanil akhlaqi la yahdi li ahsaniha illa Anta, wasrif anni sayyi'aha la yasrifu anni sayyi'aha illa Anta.
When to Read
This is a beautiful dua to recite at any time, but it holds particular significance on Friday. Consider making it a part of your supplications after the Asr prayer, or during the special hour on Friday when duas are more likely to be accepted. You can also incorporate it into your daily routine after your obligatory prayers, especially after Fajr or Maghrib, to continuously seek Allah's help in refining your character.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Raise your hands as you would during other supplications. Visualize the noble characteristics you wish to embody – patience, kindness, honesty, forgiveness – and ask Allah to bestow them upon you. Remember that Allah loves to see His servants turn to Him for even the smallest of needs, including the refinement of their character.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking Allah's guidance for good character is a noble pursuit. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that the best of believers are those with the best character (Sahih al-Bukhari 3559). By reciting this dua, you are actively asking the One who perfected creation to perfect your manners and disposition. It acknowledges that true character transformation comes only through Allah's help, fostering a sense of reliance and humility. This consistent seeking can lead to a more peaceful life, stronger relationships, and a closer connection to our Creator.
