Dua for Experiencing the Sweetness of Faith on Jumu'ah

Friday / Jumuah
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provisions, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This powerful supplication is particularly fitting on Jumu'ah, the day of gathering and reflection. It's a beautiful dua to make during the specific times of acceptance on Friday, such as between Asr and Maghrib, or after the obligatory prayers. Making it part of your Jumu'ah routine can help you focus on what truly matters: growing closer to Allah through knowledge, sustenance that pleases Him, and deeds that are accepted.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Focus on the meaning of each part: seeking knowledge that benefits you in this life and the next, asking for provisions that are lawful and good for you and your family, and praying for your deeds to be accepted by Allah. It’s best to raise your hands slightly when making dua, as this is a part of the Sunnah, and to face the Qiblah if possible. Remember that Allah loves to hear us call upon Him.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his wife, Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), when she asked him to teach her a comprehensive supplication. Its benefits lie in its comprehensive nature. * **Beneficial Knowledge ('ilman naafi'an):** This isn't just about academic learning, but knowledge that leads to correct action, piety, and understanding of Allah's commands. * **Pure Provisions (rizqan tayyiban):** This encompasses all forms of sustenance – wealth, health, family – that are lawful and pleasing to Allah, ensuring they bring barakah (blessings) to our lives. * **Accepted Deeds ('amalan mutaqabbalan):** The ultimate goal of our worship and efforts is for them to be accepted by Allah. This part of the dua seeks His mercy to overlook our shortcomings and accept our good deeds. Making this dua on Jumu'ah, a blessed day, amplifies our hope for its acceptance, as the Prophet ﷺ said that on Friday, there is an hour where if a Muslim makes dua, it will be answered.
