اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and deeds accepted.
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.
When to Read
This powerful supplication is particularly recommended to be recited after the Fajr (dawn) prayer on Friday. Friday is a blessed day, and the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us specific duas to make during this time, especially in the moments after the dawn prayer and before the sun fully rises. Making this dua on Friday aligns our intentions for the week ahead with seeking Allah's blessings for understanding, sustenance, and acceptance of our deeds, which are crucial for facing any challenge.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, believing that Allah is the ultimate source of all good. Raise your hands in supplication as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ. Focus on the meaning of each phrase: asking for knowledge that benefits, provision that is pure and lawful, and deeds that are accepted by our Lord. Imagine these requests being presented to Allah during a time of great spiritual potential.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses three essential aspects for a fulfilling life and for navigating difficulties: seeking knowledge that guides us, lawful provision that sustains us, and deeds that are accepted, ensuring our worship and efforts are not in vain. By asking for these on a blessed day like Friday, we are essentially asking Allah to equip us with the spiritual and material means to face whatever challenges come our way with strength and reliance on Him. Beneficial knowledge illuminates our path, good provision eases our worldly burdens, and accepted deeds bring us closer to our Creator.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say upon waking up in the morning: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا. *Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.* 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and deeds accepted.' (Sahih Muslim 7:46). Although this hadith is about the morning of any day, its profoundness makes it especially relevant to recite on Friday morning to set a righteous tone for the rest of the week and to invoke Allah's continuous support.
