اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan
When to Read
This powerful dua is particularly recommended to be recited after the Fajr (dawn) prayer on Friday. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often recite this dua after praying Fajr on that blessed day. Fridays hold a special significance in Islam, being a day of heightened spiritual potential for supplication. Reciting this dua at the start of the day, when one is seeking divine assistance and acceptance, sets a beautiful tone for the rest of the day, seeking Allah's blessings in knowledge, sustenance, and deeds.
How to Read
Begin by sincerely turning your heart towards Allah. Recite this dua with conviction and a clear intention, understanding the profound request you are making. Utter the Arabic words clearly, focusing on their meaning. Feel the humility of asking your Creator for these essential aspects of life: knowledge that benefits, provision that is pure and lawful, and deeds that are accepted. Raise your hands slightly as you make the dua, as is the practice of the Prophet ﷺ for many supplications. Afterwards, continue with your other adhkar (remembrances) and dhikr for the day, especially those specific to Friday.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses three crucial elements for a fulfilling life in this world and the next. Beneficial knowledge ( 'ilman nafi'an ) guides us to what is right and protects us from error. Goodly provision ( rizqan tayyiban ) ensures that our sustenance is lawful and blessed, bringing peace and contentment. Acceptable deeds ( 'amalan mutaqabbalan ) are those performed sincerely for Allah and in accordance with His commands, leading to success in this life and the Hereafter. The Prophet ﷺ's consistent practice of this dua after Fajr on Friday highlights its immense value and the special opportunity it presents on this day.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Whoever says this at dawn (Fajr) on Friday: Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan - he will be protected from everything until he reaches Friday of the following week.' (Reported by Ibn Majah and Al-Mundhiri graded it Sahih, and also mentioned by An-Nawawi in Al-Adhkar).
