O Allah, I ask You by Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over creation. Keep me alive as long as You know life is good for me, and take me away when You know death is good for me. O Allah, I ask You for Your fear in private and in public. I ask You for the word of truth in times of contentment and anger. I ask You for moderation in poverty and wealth. I ask You for bliss that never ends, and for coolness of the eye that never diminishes. I ask You for contentment after Your decree, and for a pleasant life after death. I ask You for the delight of looking at Your Face, and for the longing to meet You, without any harm or misleading trials. O Allah, adorn us with the adornment of faith, and make us guides who are guided. And reform our offspring for us. Verily, You are the All-Hearing of the supplication.
Allahumma inni as'aluka bi 'ilmikal-ghaibi wa qudratika 'alal-khalqi, ahyini ma 'alimtal-hayata khayran li, wa tawaffani idha 'alimtal-wafata khayran li. Allahumma inni as'aluka khashyataka fil-ghaibi wash-shahadati, wa as'aluka kalimatil-haqqi fir-rida wal-ghadabi, wa as'aluka al-qasda fil-faqr wal-ghina, wa as'aluka na'iman la yanfadu, wa as'aluka qurrata 'ainin la tanqati', wa as'aluka ar-rida'a ba'dal-qada'i, wa as'aluka barda al-'ayshi ba'dal-mauti, wa as'aluka ladhdhatan-nazari ila wajhika, wash-shawqa ila liqa'ika, fi ghairi darra'a mudirratin, wa la fitnatin mudillatin. Allahumma zayyinna bi zeenatil-imani, waj'alna hudatan muhtaddeen, wa aslih lana dhurriyyaatina, innaka antas-samee'ud-du'a.
When to Read
This comprehensive dua is especially potent on a Friday, a day blessed with unique opportunities for answered prayers. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that there is an hour on Friday when Allah grants what is asked. Making this dua during that time, or at any point on Friday, especially after Asr prayer or before iftar, is highly recommended. You can recite it after your prayers, or specifically after Fajr prayer on Friday, seeking Allah's blessings for your children throughout the coming week.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and deep conviction. Face the Qiblah if possible, raise your hands, and begin with praising Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Utter the words clearly and with a hopeful heart, visualizing your children growing up as righteous, protected individuals. The etiquette includes making dua for yourself and your loved ones, as the Prophet ﷺ advised. Ensure you understand the meaning to connect with it fully.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful supplication encompasses many essential requests for a Muslim's life and hereafter. It asks for Allah's guidance and protection in all circumstances, for contentment, for steadfastness in faith, and for a life pleasing to Him. Specifically for our children, it implores Allah to make them righteous and guided, ensuring their well-being in this life and the next. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to ask Allah for what is good, both in this world and the hereafter, and this dua perfectly embodies that principle. The inclusion of 'reform our offspring' (أصلح لنا ذرياتنا) is a direct supplication for their piety and good character, which is one of the three things that continue to benefit a person after death, according to a Sahih Hadith (Sahih Muslim 1631).
