Friday / Jumuah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 7:60

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is particularly fitting to recite on Friday, especially after the Jumu'ah prayer, or at any point during the day. Friday is a day of immense blessings, a peak in the week where our supplications are often more readily accepted. Asking for beneficial knowledge helps us understand our deen better, pure provision ensures our sustenance is lawful and blessed, and accepted deeds mean our efforts in worship and good works are rewarded by Allah. It's a perfect way to conclude the spiritual activities of Jumu'ah and set a positive intention for the days ahead, ensuring the remainder of our week is guided by knowledge, sustained by lawful means, and filled with pleasing acts of worship.

How to Read

Make this dua with sincere intention and conviction. It is best to raise your hands, as is the Sunnah when making dua, especially after prayer. Believe that Allah (SWT) is capable of granting your requests and that He is the Most Merciful. Reflect on the meaning of each request: seeking knowledge that benefits both you and others, asking for sustenance that is wholesome and free from anything unlawful, and praying for deeds that are accepted by Allah, meaning they are performed sincerely for His sake and in accordance with His commands. Recite it with a humble heart, knowing that Allah loves to hear the sincere pleas of His servants.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates three fundamental pillars of a blessed life: beneficial knowledge (`ilm naafi'`) that guides us and others towards righteousness; pure and lawful provision (`rizq tayyib`) that blesses our lives and families; and accepted deeds (`'amal mutaqabbal`) that weigh heavily on our scales on the Day of Judgment. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua, showing its immense value. Reciting it on Friday, a day of heightened blessings, can amplify its impact, seeking divine favor for the completion of our weekly acts of worship and the commencement of new ones. It is a comprehensive supplication for spiritual, material, and practical well-being.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say when he awoke in the morning: 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and accepted deeds.' (Sahih Muslim 7:60). While the hadith specifically mentions reciting this upon waking, its essence of seeking these three crucial elements makes it incredibly relevant for any time, especially Friday, as we reflect on our week and prepare for the next, aiming for Allah's pleasure in all aspects of our lives.
