Dua for a Safe and Easy Labor and Delivery on Friday

Friday / Jumuah
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 567

O Allah, the One who eases the difficult, the One who softens iron, the One who fulfills His promise, and the One who knows all things. Remove hardship and distress from my throat. O Allah, show me the wonder of Your relief and Your ease. O Allah, grant me enjoyment through my hearing and my sight, and make them my heirs. And show me goodness in my successor.

When to Read

This powerful dua is particularly beneficial to recite on a Friday, especially during the final stages of pregnancy when labor is imminent. The day of Jumu'ah is a blessed day, and making dua on this day carries special significance. Recite it during your prenatal appointments, after prayers, or anytime you feel the need for Allah's help and facilitation during this crucial period. It's an excellent prayer to have readily available to recite repeatedly as labor begins.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere conviction and a hopeful heart, focusing on the meaning of each word. It's best recited when you are in a state of purity (wudu), though not strictly required in moments of intense need. Face the Qiblah if possible, and raise your hands in supplication. Repeat it often, especially on Friday, trusting in Allah's plan and His ability to make a difficult situation easy. Visualize the ease and safety you are asking for.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua specifically asks Allah to ease hardship ('musaahil ash-shadeed') and soften difficulties ('mulayyin al-hadeed'), which perfectly encapsulates the needs of a woman in labor. It seeks Allah's divine intervention to remove distress ('akhrij min halqi diqan wa harajan') and to witness His immense relief and ease ('arini al-'ajaba fee tafreejik wa yusrik'). The latter part, asking for enjoyment of hearing and sight and goodness in one's successor, can be understood as a prayer for the health and well-being of both mother and child, and for the continuation of good in the family line, all tied to a successful and healthy delivery. Reciting it on Friday amplifies the blessings, as Jumu'ah is a day when Allah bestows His favors.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abdullah bin Abi Awfa that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Increase your blessings upon me on the Day of Jumu’ah, for it is witnessed, and no one invokes blessings upon me except that his invocation is presented to me.' (He said:) I asked: 'After death?' He said: 'After death. Allah has forbidden the earth from consuming the body of the Prophet.' (This narration is about the virtue of sending blessings on the Prophet on Friday. However, the dua provided is a general dua for ease, and it is fitting to make it on a blessed day like Friday, seeking Allah's facilitation in difficult times.)
