اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ
O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your servants.
Allahumma qini 'adhabaka yawma tab'athu 'ibadak
When to Read
This is a powerful dua the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would recite before sleeping. While it's a general dua for protection from Hellfire, reciting it before sleep, especially on a blessed night like Friday, is a beautiful way to seek Allah's shelter. Imagine yourself settling down for the night, the day's efforts concluded, and making this your final conscious act – asking the Almighty for His ultimate protection.
How to Read
Recite this once before you sleep. It's recommended to perform Wudu (ablution) before going to bed, as the Prophet ﷺ used to do. Lie down on your right side, place your right hand under your cheek, and recite this supplication with sincerity and conviction, remembering Allah's might and your reliance on Him.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates seeking refuge in Allah from the greatest of calamities – His punishment. By making this a habit before sleep, we are constantly mindful of our accountability and the Hereafter. It transforms our rest into an act of worship, a continuous seeking of Allah's mercy. The Prophet's ﷺ practice of this specific dua highlights its importance in seeking divine protection even in our most vulnerable moments of sleep. It's a beautiful reminder that our connection with Allah should extend to all aspects of our lives, including rest.

Narrated Hudhayfah: Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) intended to sleep, he would place his hand under his cheek and say: 'Allahumma qini 'adhabaka yawma tab'athu 'ibadak' (O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your servants). And when he awoke from sleep, he would say: 'Al-hamdu lillahilladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhi an-nushoor' (Praise be to Allah Who revived us after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection).
