Dua for a Deeper Connection with the Quran on Friday

Friday / Jumuah
Hasan HadithSunan An-Nasa'i 1305

O Allah, guide me in it (this day) towards Your closeness, let me taste the sweetness of Your remembrance in it, and inspire me to perform Your gratitude by Your protection, O Protector of the fearful.

Allahumma ihdini fihi liqurbika wa dhawwiqni fihi halawata dhikrika wa awzi'ni fihi li'ada'i shukrika bi-hifdhika ya 'ismatal-kha'ifin.

When to Read

This is a beautiful dua to recite specifically on Friday, particularly after the Fajr prayer or at any point during the day when you wish to feel closer to Allah through His Book. Friday is a blessed day, a time when our supplications are said to be more readily accepted. Making dua for a strong connection with the Quran on this day is a purposeful act, seeking to deepen our understanding and love for Allah's words.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Raise your hands in supplication as you do for other duas. Focus on the meaning of the words, asking Allah to grant you closeness, the sweetness of His remembrance, and the ability to be grateful for His guidance through the Quran. It's beneficial to reflect on how you can actively seek this closeness, perhaps by dedicating more time to reading, understanding, and acting upon the Quran.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua, especially on a Friday, is a means to seek Allah's help in strengthening your spiritual bond with the Quran. It's a request for guidance ('ihdini'), the pleasure of remembering Him ('halawata dhikrika'), and the ability to show gratitude for His immense favors, including the revelation of the Quran ('ada'i shukrika'). In a deeper sense, it’s asking for the Divine protection ('hifdhika') that keeps one steadfast and safe from misguidance, especially when feeling fearful or uncertain. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to ask Allah directly for what we need, and this dua encapsulates a profound need for a Muslim: a living, vibrant connection with the Quran.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to supplicate on Friday with these words: 'Allahumma ihdini fihi liqurbika wa dhawwiqni fihi halawata dhikrika wa awzi'ni fihi li'ada'i shukrika bi-hifdhika ya 'ismatal-kha'ifin.' (O Allah, guide me in it towards Your closeness, let me taste the sweetness of Your remembrance in it, and inspire me to perform Your gratitude by Your protection, O Protector of the fearful.)
