O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, the reversal of Your well-being, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that You are displeased with. And I seek refuge in You from the trial of the unjust people.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuj'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatil-qawmidh-dhalimin.
When to Read
This powerful supplication is perfect to recite during times of personal vulnerability, when you witness or fear injustice around you, or simply as a regular practice to seek Allah's protection. It's particularly relevant before embarking on challenging situations or when feeling overwhelmed by the state of affairs in the world. Reciting it after Fajr and Asr prayers, when the Prophet ﷺ advised seeking refuge, is also highly recommended.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and full conviction in Allah's power to protect. Raise your hands slightly, as is customary when seeking refuge with Allah. Understand the meaning of each phrase and feel the plea in your heart. It's beneficial to reflect on the specific fears or injustices you are seeking protection from as you utter the words. This dua is most potent when combined with righteous action and trusting in Allah's decree.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua offers comprehensive protection. It seeks refuge from the loss of *Ni'mah* (blessings), which can encompass anything good Allah has bestowed upon us – health, family, sustenance, faith. It also asks for protection against the reversal of *'Afiyah* (well-being), meaning a return to sickness, hardship, or any form of distress. Seeking refuge from sudden punishment (*Fuj'a Niqmah*) is a plea against unexpected calamity. Asking protection from Allah's displeasure (*Sakhat*) is a profound request, as His anger is a terrifying prospect. Finally, seeking refuge from the 'trial of the unjust people' (*Fitnatil-Qawmidh-Dhalimin*) is a direct request to be shielded from the harm, oppression, and negative influence of those who transgress Allah's limits and wrong others.

Al-Bara' ibn 'Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When you go to your bed, perform Wudu' as you do for prayer, then lie on your right side and say: O Allah, I have surrendered my face to You, and entrusted my affairs to You, and turned my back to You with hope and fear towards You. There is no refuge nor safety from You except towards You. O Allah, I believe in the Book You have revealed and the Prophet you have sent. (If you die this night) you die upon the innate nature (fitrah). Make these the last words you utter.' Al-Bara' said: 'I said them and I was upon the bed of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I said: And with regard to Your brothers, you should recite them too.' He said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: If you die this night, you will die upon the innate nature (fitrah). If you survive this night, you will attain good.' Al-Bara' said: 'I repeated them and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the vanishing of Your blessing, and the change of Your protection, and the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your anger.' He also said: 'And seek refuge in Allah from the trial of the people who do wrong.' Al-Bara' said: 'I said: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the vanishing of Your blessing, and the change of Your protection, and the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your anger. And I seek refuge in You, O Allah, from the trial of the people who do wrong.' (Sahih Muslim 2710)
