Fear
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 3109

I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, and from the evil of His creation, and from the temptations of the devils and from their presence.

A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min ghadabihi wa 'iqabihi, wa sharri 'ibadihi, wa min hamazatish-shayateeni wa an yahdurun.

When to Read

This powerful supplication is particularly beneficial to recite when you feel a sense of unease, especially at night, or when entering places that might be secluded or associated with the unseen. It's a general protection that can be made at any time, but its specific mention related to the 'presence of devils' makes it ideal for moments of heightened fear or apprehension about jinn or supernatural influences.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere belief and conviction in Allah's power. It's recommended to recite it three times in the morning and three times in the evening for comprehensive protection throughout the day and night. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible, though it is permissible to recite even without it. Focus on the meaning as you utter the words, visualizing Allah's perfect words enveloping you.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua offers a profound shield against the harm of jinn and shayateen. By seeking refuge in Allah's 'perfect words,' we are invoking His absolute power and wisdom, which encompasses all creation and its potential evils. It's a direct invocation for Allah's protection from His own anger, His punishment, the evil in His creation, and specifically the whispers and presence of devils.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Khubaib that he said: We went out on a very dark and rainy night, looking for the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) to lead us in prayer. We found him and he said: 'Have you prayed?' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, have we prayed?' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Say: أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ غَضَبِهِ وَعِقَابِهِ، وَشَرِّ عِبَادِهِ، وَمِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَأَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ Then he said: 'Indeed, these words will be a protection for you from everything.' (Reported by Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi and An-Nasa'i, and graded Sahih by Al-Albani. Sahih al-Bukhari also narrates a similar account, 3109).
