Narrated Tariq bin Ashyam: I heard my father say, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'A servant does not ask for anything (of the type of worldly or Hereafter) but Allah grants him what is in his hand to ask for, or He averts from him the like thereof so long as he does not ask for something sinful or severance of the ties of kinship.' A man said to him: 'Then what is the best way to ask?' He said: 'O my son, when you ask Allah for Paradise, ask Him for Al-Firdaws, the middle part of Paradise and its highest part, and I think he also said: 'And above it is the Throne of the Most Compassionate, and from it burst forth the rivers of Paradise.' And when you ask for protection from Hell, ask for protection from it and from the scorching fire, and I think he also said: 'And ask Allah for protection from affliction and the evil of the punishment in the Hereafter, and ask Him: 'O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me well-being, and provide for me' for verily, these things encompass your worldly and your Hereafter needs.'
