O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Dajjal (Antichrist), and I seek refuge in You from the trial of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from sin and debt.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhab al-qabr, wa a'udhu bika min fitnat ad-dajjal, wa a'udhu bika min fitnat al-mahya wal-mawat. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-matham wal-maghram.

This is a comprehensive supplication that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to recite in our prayers, particularly during the Tashahhud (the final sitting before the salam). It's a powerful way to seek Allah's protection against some of the most significant trials we may face, both in this life and the next. Reciting it consistently, especially when contemplating the hereafter or feeling anxious about the unknown, can bring immense peace of mind.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and focus during your prayers, especially in the final sitting of the Tashahhud. Reflect on the meanings of each phrase as you say it, truly seeking Allah's protection. Make it a habit, and you'll find your reliance on Allah growing, which in turn strengthens your heart against fear.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua offers multifaceted protection. Seeking refuge from the punishment of the grave is a direct plea against one of the most feared stages of the afterlife. Protection from the Dajjal is seeking strength against the ultimate fitna (trial) that will test the faith of humanity. Seeking refuge from the trials of life and death acknowledges our vulnerability to various hardships and the immense challenge of facing our end. Finally, seeking refuge from sin and debt addresses earthly concerns that can weigh heavily on us and distract us from our purpose. By reciting this, we are essentially asking Allah to safeguard us through the most critical phases of our existence.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to teach us this supplication in the prayer as (he used to say): 'When anyone of you finishes the Tashahhud, he should seek refuge with Allah from four things, saying: Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhab al-jahanim, wa min 'adhab al-qabr, wa min fitnat al-mahya wal-mawat, wa min sharri fitnat al-masih ad-dajjal.' (Sahih Muslim 589). A narration in Sahih al-Bukhari (1377) mentions: 'The Prophet ﷺ would supplicate: O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge with You from the trial of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge with You from the trial of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from sin and debt.' The slight variation in wording is a mercy, offering comprehensive protection. The key is the seeking of refuge in Allah from these specific hardships.
