Fear
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from grief and distress, from helplessness and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, from the burden of debt and the subjugation of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa dala'id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijal.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself, is comprehensive. It encompasses seeking refuge not just from external worries but also from internal struggles that can manifest as phobias and irrational fears. By seeking refuge from grief, distress, helplessness, and laziness, we address the root causes of many anxieties. Fear of people (ghalabatir-rijal) can also be a significant source of irrational fear, and this dua directly addresses it.
