Dua for Protection from the Fear of Being Judged by Others

Fear
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2708

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, the reversal of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that You are displeased with. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of affliction, the attainment of misery, the evil of destiny, and the rejoicing of enemies. O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all matters, and I ask You for the resolve of right guidance. I ask You to enable me to be grateful for Your favours and to worship You well. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I ask You for the good of what You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know, and I seek Your forgiveness for what You know. Indeed, You are the Knower of the unseen.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawaali ni'matika, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fujaa'ati niqmatika, wa jamee'i sakhatik, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min jahdil balaa'i, wa darakish shaqaa'i, wa soo'il qadaa'i, wa shamaatatil a'daa'i. Allahumma inni as'alukath thabaata fil amri, wa as'aluka 'azeematir rushdi, wa as'aluka shukra ni'matika, wa husna 'ibaadatika, wa as'aluka qalban saleeman, wa lisaanan saadiqan, wa as'aluka min khairi ma ta'lam, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma ta'lam, wa astaghfiruka limaa ta'lam, innaka anta 'allamul ghuyoob.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is particularly beneficial when you feel overwhelmed by the opinions and judgments of others, or when you're facing situations where you fear their disapproval. Recite it regularly, especially in the morning and evening, to strengthen your reliance on Allah and to seek His protection from negative influences and internal anxieties.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a heartfelt plea to Allah. Maintain a state of purity (wudu) if possible. Raise your hands in supplication as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did. Focus on the meaning of each phrase and let the words sink into your heart, trusting that Allah hears your call and will respond in the best way.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses seeking refuge from various trials and tribulations, including those that arise from the opinions of people. By asking Allah to protect us from the 'rejoicing of enemies' (shamaatatil a'daa'i), we are essentially seeking His shield against situations where others might take pleasure in our downfall or struggles – often a consequence of perceived failures or judgments. It also cultivates a deeper reliance on Allah, asking for steadfastness, guidance, gratitude, and excellent worship, which are all qualities that distance us from seeking validation from creation. A sound heart and truthful tongue are direct antidotes to the anxiety of being judged.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ زَوَالِ نِعْمَتِكَ، وَتَحَوُّلِ عَافِيَتِكَ، وَفُجَاءَةِ نِقْمَتِكَ، وَجَمِيعِ سَخَطِكَ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ جَهْدِ الْبَلاَءِ، وَدَرَكِ الشَّقَاءِ، وَسُوءِ الْقَضَاءِ، وَشَمَاتَةِ الأَعْدَاءِ 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the demise of Your blessings, and the reversal of the well-being You granted, and the sudden affliction of Your punishment, and all that You are angry about. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the distress of affliction, and the attainment of wretchedness, and the evil of decree, and the rejoicing of the enemies.' Then he said: 'O Allah, I ask You for the firmness in the command, and I ask You for the resolve in guidance, and I ask You for the gratitude for Your favors, and I ask You for the perfection of Your worship. And I ask You for a sound heart, and I ask You for a truthful tongue. And I ask You of the good which You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil which You know, and I seek Your forgiveness for what You know. Verily, You are the Knower of the unseen.'
