Dua for Protection from the Fear of Being Haunted by the Past

Fear
Sahih HadithMusnad Ahmad 3701

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your judgment concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, by which You have taught any of Your creation, or which You have revealed in Your Book, or which You have retained in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Quran the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my grief, and the reliever of my worry.

Allahumma inni 'abdik, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyati bi-yadik, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bi-kulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabi k, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jala'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud that the Prophet ﷺ said: Allah has not afflicted any servant with distress or grief, and he has said: O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant, my forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is effective, Your judgment over me is just. I ask You by every name that You call Yourself, by which You have taught one of Your creatures, or that You have sent down in Your Book, or that You have kept in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the delight of my heart and the light of my chest and the banisher of my grief and the reliever of my anxiety. (Allah will remove his distress and compensate him for his grief). It was said: O Messenger of Allah, should we learn these words? He said: Yes, it is incumbent upon every person who has heard them to learn them. (Narrated by Ahmad and Abu Ya'la, and its chain of).] A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said that the Prophet ﷺ used to say: O Allah, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your anger, and in Your forgiveness from Your punishment, and in Your protection from Your wrath. I cannot enumerate Your praises. You are as You have praised Yourself. (Narrated by Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud, and it is Sahih).
