Dua for Protection from the Fear of Allah's Displeasure

Fear
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2739

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearing of Your blessings, the reversal of Your well-being, the suddenness of Your wrath, and all that incurs Your displeasure.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is perfect to recite during times of reflection, particularly after salah (obligatory or voluntary prayers) or upon waking. It's a shield against losing the good that Allah has bestowed upon us and against falling into His anger, which is a state no believer would wish for.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a heart that genuinely fears Allah's displeasure. Focus on the meaning of each phrase: acknowledging Allah's blessings, recognizing our vulnerability, and earnestly seeking His protection. Raising your hands slightly while making dua is a sunnah practice, though not strictly required for this specific supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication encapsulates a deep understanding of our reliance on Allah. By seeking refuge from the loss of blessings, the reversal of well-being, and sudden punishment, we are essentially asking Allah to maintain His favor upon us and keep us away from anything that might lead to His anger. This shows a proactive approach to maintaining a good relationship with our Creator, understanding that His pleasure is paramount for our success in this life and the next.
