Dua for Protection from Bad Intentions and Evil Whispers

Fear
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 7028

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done, and the evil of what I have not done, and the evil of what You have created, and the evil of what You have begotten, and the evil of every moving creature You are seizing by its forelock. Verily, my Lord is on a straight path. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearing of Your blessings, and the changing of Your good health, and the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri ma 'amiltu, wa sharri ma lam a'mal, wa sharri ma khalaqta, wa sharri ma awladtu, wa sharri kulli dabbatin anta akhidhun binasiyatiha, wa inna Rabbi 'ala siratin mustaqim. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matika, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fu'jati niqmatika, wa jami'i sakhatik.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is excellent to recite in the morning and evening, a practice recommended by the Prophet ﷺ to seek Allah's protection from all forms of evil, including unseen negative intentions and the potential for one's own actions to lead to harm. It's particularly beneficial when you feel a sense of unease, anxiety, or suspect negative thoughts or intentions from others, or even from within yourself that you wish to guard against.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, visualizing Allah's all-encompassing protection. It's best recited after the obligatory prayers or at the beginning of your day. Ensure you pronounce the Arabic words correctly to convey the full meaning and intent of seeking refuge in Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a deep reliance on Allah for protection. By seeking refuge in His perfect creation and acknowledging His absolute power ('anta akhidhun binasiyatiha'), we affirm our faith and trust in Him. It protects against the 'evil of what I have done' and 'what I have not done,' covering both past actions and potential future missteps. The second part of the dua specifically shields us from the loss of Allah's blessings, well-being, sudden calamities, and His anger, which are all manifestations of negative outcomes that bad intentions can contribute to.

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharrima 'amiltu, wa sharrima lam a'mal, wa sharrima khalaqtu, wa sharrima awladtu, wa sharrima dab'atin anta akhidhun binasiyatiha, wa inna Rabbi 'ala siratin mustaqim. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matika, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fu'jati niqmatika, wa jami'i sakhatik.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done, and the evil of what I have not done, and the evil of what You have created, and the evil of what You have begotten, and the evil of every moving creature You are seizing by its forelock. Verily, my Lord is on a straight path.
