Dua for Peace of Mind Amidst Future Fears

Fear
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 1/391

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is effective. Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abd..., ibn 'abdika, ibn amatika, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka. As'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm-il-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

Recite this powerful dua when the future feels overwhelming, when the unknown casts a shadow of fear over your heart, and you feel a heavy burden of worry. It’s perfect for those moments when your thoughts race, trying to predict and control what is out of your hands.

How to Read

This is a profound supplication that requires sincerity and presence of heart. Raise your hands (if possible) as you would in any personal dua. Utter the words with conviction, feeling your utter dependence on Allah. Picture the Qur'an as a source of life and light for your heart, washing away the darkness of fear and anxiety. It’s recommended to make this dua after the obligatory prayers, or during the blessed times like the last third of the night, or when making sujood. Remember that sincerity in your supplication is key.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a direct appeal to Allah, acknowledging His absolute control over all affairs, including the unseen future. By asking for the Qur'an to be the ‘springtime of your heart,’ you are seeking a deep, spiritual renewal that brings life and joy, displacing sadness. The 'light of your chest' illuminates your understanding and calms your thoughts, while 'banishing sadness' and 'relieving worries' directly addresses the symptoms of future anxiety. It’s a comprehensive request for inner peace rooted in faith.

Source & Authentication

A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am troubled by thoughts of disbelief that I am experiencing.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'That is the clear manifestation of faith.' The man asked: 'What is the meaning of it?' The Prophet ﷺ replied: 'The devil comes to one of you and says: Who created this? Who created that? until he says: Who created your Lord? When he experiences this, let him seek refuge in Allah and say: 'I believe in Allah and His messengers.' (Sahih Muslim 134). Later, the Prophet ﷺ taught this specific dua to a man, saying: 'Allahumma inni 'abd..., ibn 'abdika, ibn amatika, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka. As'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm-il-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.' (Musnad Ahmad 1/391). This context highlights that when faced with overwhelming thoughts, particularly those that breed fear and anxiety about the unknown, turning to specific, profound duas taught by the Prophet ﷺ is a tested method to find solace.
