O Allah, I seek refuge in You from grief and sadness, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overpowering of debt and the subjugation of men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-hammi wal-hazan, wa a'udhu bika min al-'ajzi wal-kasal, wa a'udhu bika min al-jubni wal-buhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.
When to Read
Recite this dua when you feel overwhelmed by the difficulty of an upcoming examination, or when fear and anxiety start to creep in. It’s a powerful supplication to invoke Allah’s protection from the very things that can hinder your performance: worry, inability, laziness, fear, and feeling overwhelmed.
How to Read
It is best to recite this dua with sincere conviction, ideally after waking up in the morning and before going to bed at night, as it is a general supplication for protection. You can also repeat it just before entering the examination hall to invoke Allah’s strength and courage. Raise your hands slightly in supplication if possible, and face the Qiblah if feasible, though the most important aspect is the sincerity of your heart.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua seeks Allah’s protection from debilitating states of being: grief, inability, laziness, cowardice, stinginess, overwhelming debt, and the oppression of others. By seeking refuge in Allah from these afflictions, we strengthen ourselves mentally and emotionally, which is crucial when facing challenges like difficult exams. Courage and clarity of mind are direct results of relying on Allah and asking for His protection from states that rob us of these qualities.
