Evil Eye & Hasad
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2186

In the name of Allah, I perform Ruqyah for you, from everything that harms you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye, may Allah cure you, in the name of Allah, I perform Ruqyah for you.

Bismillahi arqeeka min kulli shay'in yu'dheeka, min sharri kulli nafsin aw 'ayni haasidin, Allahu yashfeeka, bismillahi arqeeka.

When to Read

This powerful supplication is part of the Prophetic method for treating the effects of the evil eye. If you or a loved one shows signs of being afflicted by the evil eye – such as sudden illness, unexplained fatigue, or a general sense of unease – this dua, combined with the specific application of water as described by the Prophet ﷺ, can be a source of healing and protection.

How to Read

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that when someone is afflicted by the evil eye, the person who can help should take water and recite the following words over it: '‎بِسْمِ اللَّهِ أَرْقِيكَ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ يُؤْذِيكَ، مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ نَفْسٍ أَوْ عَيْنٍ حَاسِدٍ، اللَّهُ يَشْفِيكَ، بِسْمِ اللَّهِ أَرْقِيكَ.' (Bismillahi arqeeka min kulli shay'in yu'dheeka, min sharri kulli nafsin aw 'ayni haasidin, Allahu yashfeeka, bismillahi arqeeka.). Then, the afflicted person should be washed with this water. This act is not merely ritualistic; it carries the weight of the Prophet's ﷺ guidance and is an invocation of Allah's healing power. Ensure the water is clean and the recitation is done with sincerity and firm belief in Allah's ability to heal.

Virtues & Benefits

This method directly follows the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, making it a blessed way to seek relief from the evil eye. The efficacy lies in Allah's permission and the specific supplication taught by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, which encompasses seeking refuge in Allah's name from all harm and the evil of envious eyes. It reminds us that even seemingly mundane elements like water can become a means of cure when supplicated over with faith.

Source & Authentication

‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was asked about the evil eye, he said: 'Ask for Ghusl from its people.' So they requested Ghusl from its people, and they washed them until their bodies became white. They did not mention that to him [i.e., the Prophet] but they did not think that anything was upon them. Then he said: ‘Indeed, the evil eye is a reality, and were it not for that which precedes it, it would have afflicted the body (i.e. killed).’ In another narration: ‘...so the person who was afflicted by it would take Ghusl from its people, and he would be washed (with the water). And ‘Ā’ishah said: ‘When he ordered them to take Ghusl, he said: 'Bismillahi arqeeka min kulli shay'in yu'dheeka, min sharri kulli nafsin aw 'ayni haasidin, Allahu yashfeeka, bismillahi arqeeka.' (In the name of Allah, I perform Ruqyah for you, from everything that harms you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye, may Allah cure you, in the name of Allah, I perform Ruqyah for you.)' — Sahih Muslim 2186
