أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq
When to Read
This dua is especially potent when you sense that someone's envy or jealousy over your blessings – be it your health, your job, your family, or your religious practice – is causing harm. It's a powerful shield against the unseen effects of ill will that can manifest as misfortune or a drain on your well-being. Recite it as a daily habit for general protection, and particularly when you feel a negative energy directed towards you or your good fortune.
How to Read
This concise yet comprehensive supplication should be recited with sincere belief in Allah's power to protect. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to recite it three times in the morning and three times in the evening. It's recommended to blow gently onto your hands after reciting and then wipe them over your body, starting with the parts you can reach. This practice, taught by the Prophet ﷺ himself, amplifies the protective barrier against all forms of evil, including the evil eye stemming from jealousy.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking refuge in Allah's perfect words is a direct plea for His ultimate protection. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ assured us that anyone who recites this supplication in the morning will be protected until the evening, and anyone who recites it in the evening will be protected until the morning. This protection encompasses all forms of evil, including the subtle and sometimes devastating effects of the evil eye, especially when it arises from envy (hasad) over one's blessings. It's a testament to the power of remembrance (dhikr) and reliance (tawakkul) on Allah alone.

The full narration is: 'A man said to the Prophet (ﷺ): 'O Messenger of Allah! What has he done?' He said: 'He sought refuge in Allah's Perfect Words from every devil and every poisonous thing and from every evil eye.' Then it was said to him: 'For protection against what?' So he blessed him and said: 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sought refuge with these words: أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ غَضَبِهِ وَعِقَابِهِ، وَشَرِّ عِبَادِهِ، وَمِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَأَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ (A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min ghadabihi wa 'iqabihi, wa sharri 'ibadihi, wa min hamazatis-shayatini wa an yahdurun - I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, from the evil of His slaves, and from the evil suggestions of devils and from their presence.)' (Sunan Abi Dawud 3893). However, the specific phrasing mentioned in Sahih Muslim 2708, 'A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq' (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created), is also a well-established supplication for protection from all evil, including the evil eye.
