أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq
When to Read
This powerful supplication is for general protection against all forms of evil, including the harmful effects of the evil eye (al-'ayn) and the machinations of enemies. It's a dua we can make upon waking, before embarking on a journey, or whenever we feel a sense of unease or vulnerability. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as a comprehensive shield.
How to Read
Recite this dua sincerely, with full conviction in Allah's power to protect. It is recommended to recite it three times in the morning and three times in the evening for complete protection, as indicated by other narrations on similar protective duas. Raise your hands slightly, as one would when making supplication, and truly believe in the words you are uttering.
Virtues & Benefits
The 'perfect words of Allah' encompass His divine decree, His names and attributes, and the divine pronouncements. By seeking refuge in these, we are invoking the mightiest of protections. This dua is a direct application of the Quranic principle: 'And if an evil intimation comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing' (Al-A'raf 7:200). It wards off harm that stems from creation, whether it be natural dangers or the envy and ill-will of people.
