بَارَكَ اللهُ فِيكَ
May Allah bless you.
Barakallahu feek
When to Read
When you see something you find beautiful, impressive, or pleasing – whether it's a person, an object, a home, or a possession. This is to prevent unintentionally causing harm through admiration that lacks remembrance of Allah's blessing.
How to Read
Recite this phrase clearly and sincerely when admiring something. The intention is to attribute the beauty and blessing to Allah, rather than directly to the object or person, thereby averting any potential harm from an envious or unmindful gaze. You can say this aloud to the owner of what you admire, or say it silently to yourself while reflecting on Allah's creation.
Virtues & Benefits
This beautiful phrase serves as a powerful shield against the evil eye. By invoking Allah's blessing ('Barakallahu feek'), you are essentially acknowledging that whatever beauty or goodness you see is from Allah alone. This prevents your admiration from turning into envy or causing harm. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this as a way to protect both the admirer and the admired from potential negative spiritual consequences, turning a moment of appreciation into an act of remembrance and submission.

Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif narrated that 'Amir bin Rabi'ah passed by Sahl bin Hunaif while he was having a bath in the Khazaz. 'Amir said, 'By Allah, I have never seen such a beautiful skin as I see today.' Sahl fell down on the spot. When they took him to the Prophet ﷺ, it was said to him, 'O Allah's Messenger, can you do anything about Sahl's fall?' Allah's Messenger ﷺ said, 'Do you blame anybody for this?' They said, 'Amir bin Rabi'ah passed by him and looked at him.' Upon this, Allah's Messenger ﷺ said, 'Why would one of you kill his brother? When you see something that pleases you, you should pray for blessings for him.' Then he said, 'Barakallahu feek.' (Sahih Muslim 922). The Prophet ﷺ then instructed Sahl to wash his face, hands, and forearms, and the inside of his lower garment, and to pour water over his head from behind, as 'Amir's eye had affected him.
