اللَّهُمَّ آتِنِي فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنِي عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
Allahumma ati ni fid-dunya hasanah, wa fil-akhirati hasanah, wa qini 'adhaban-nar
When to Read
This comprehensive dua is recommended to be recited regularly, especially in the mornings and evenings, and at any time one feels the pangs of envy or discontent. It’s a constant reminder to seek Allah’s blessings for both this life and the next, shifting focus away from what others have towards gratitude for what one possesses and the ultimate reward.
How to Read
Recite with sincere intention, focusing on the meaning of the words. Raise your hands as you make dua, as is the Sunnah. Believe firmly that Allah is the disposer of all affairs and that He will grant what is best for you. Repeating it multiple times, particularly after Salah, can strengthen its effect.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates a profound request for well-being in all aspects of life. By asking for 'hasanah' (goodness) in this world, we seek blessings in our sustenance, health, relationships, and character. In the Hereafter, 'hasanah' refers to entering Paradise and all the good it entails. Protecting us from the Fire is the ultimate salvation. Focusing on this dua helps redirect the heart away from envy towards contentment and gratitude, which are powerful antidotes to hasad.

Narrated Anas: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'Allah does not wrong a believer regarding his good deeds; he will be rewarded with them. As for the disbelief (of a Muslim), he will be rewarded in the hereafter. But the Muslim who has done evil deeds will be recompensed for them, and their reward will be lost in this world. If Allah wills, He will punish him in the hereafter, or He will forgive him. Then he recited: 'Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.' (2:201) 'Abdullah bin Mughann will say: 'Allah will reward him (for his good deeds) in this world and the hereafter.'
