بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ اصْرِفْ عَنِّي عَيْنَ الْحَاسِدِ وَحَرَّهَا وَنَصَبَهَا وَكَلَامَهَا
In the name of Allah. O Allah, turn away from me the eye of the envier, its heat, its burden, and its evil speech.
Bismillah, Allahumma isrif 'anni 'ayn al-hasid wa harraha wa nasabaha wa kalamaha.
When to Read
This dua is particularly beneficial when you find yourself in a situation where you are admiring something or someone greatly, and fear that your admiration might inadvertently cause harm (the evil eye) to them. It's also useful if you are concerned about receiving the evil eye yourself, or if you witness something beautiful and wish to praise Allah and protect the person/thing you are admiring.
How to Read
Recite this dua sincerely with the intention of seeking Allah's protection. It can be recited once or multiple times, depending on your personal feeling of need. It's best recited with a clear mind and a focused heart, remembering that ultimate protection comes only from Allah. You can say it quietly to yourself or aloud.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful supplication directly asks Allah to shield you from the harmful effects of the evil eye originating from envy. It acknowledges that such admiration, if unchecked by remembrance of Allah, can potentially carry a sting. By reciting this, you are actively seeking divine intervention to neutralize any potential negative energy, ensuring that your appreciation remains a positive reflection of Allah's creation, rather than a source of harm. It embodies the Islamic principle of attributing all blessings and protection to Allah alone.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek refuge in Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn, saying: 'I seek refuge in Allah's perfect words for you both, from every devil and every poisonous creature, and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'Your father used to seek refuge with them for Isma'il and Ishaq.' (Sunan Ibn Majah 3505). While this specific hadith speaks about seeking refuge for children, the underlying principle of seeking protection from the evil eye is clearly established. The dua provided here is a direct supplication against the evil eye of admiration when one is the admirer, drawing from the general concept of protection taught by the Prophet ﷺ.
