Evil Eye & Hasad
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2186

In the name of Allah, I perform Ruqyah for you, protecting you from all that may harm you, from the evil of every soul, and the evil eye of the envious. May Allah cure you. In the name of Allah, I perform Ruqyah for you.

Bismillahi arqeeka min kulli shay'in yu'theeka, min sharri kulli nafsin aw 'ayni hasidatin, Allahu yashfeeka, bismi Allah arqeeka.

When to Read

This dua is a powerful supplication to be recited when you suspect that yourself, a family member, or a friend is suffering from the effects of the evil eye (al-'ayn) or envy (hasad). It can be recited by the afflicted person themselves, or by someone else seeking Allah's healing on their behalf. It's best recited with sincere intention and belief in Allah's power to heal.

How to Read

When reciting this dua for someone else, it is recommended to place your hand on the afflicted area of their body (e.g., head, chest) while supplicating. Ensure you are in a state of purity (wudu) if possible, and face the Qiblah. Recite with full concentration, picturing Allah's mercy enveloping the person. Repeat the dua three times, as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, directly addresses the harmful effects of envy and the evil eye. By invoking Allah's name and seeking His protection, the reciter acknowledges that ultimate healing comes from Him alone. It is a means to repel harm and seek a cure, reinforcing Tawhid (the Oneness of Allah) and reliance upon Him. The Prophet ﷺ himself was known to seek refuge in Allah for himself and others using similar words, demonstrating its profound spiritual benefit.

Source & Authentication

‘Aaishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was suffering from something, he would recite Mu'awwidhat (Surahs Al-Falaq and An-Nas) and blow (on himself). When his illness increased, I used to recite them for him and wipe his hand over him, seeking its blessing. I heard Allah's Messenger ﷺ saying: 'O ‘Aaishah, seek refuge in Allah, for the evil eye is a reality.' It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Prophet ﷺ used to seek refuge in Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn, saying: 'I seek refuge in Allah's perfect words from every devil and every poisonous thing and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'It was through this that Allah's Messenger ﷺ used to protect Ibrahim and his descendants.'
