Seeking Allah's Protection: Dua Against the Evil Eye When Self-Doubt Creeps In

Evil Eye & Hasad
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud, Sunan At-Tirmidhi 5081 (Abi Dawud), 3523 (Tirmidhi)

In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in Allah from the evil of myself, and from the evil of Satan and his association, and from bringing evil upon myself or dragging it to a Muslim.

Bismillahi, a'udhu billahi min sharri nafsi wa min sharri-shaytani wa shirkihi wa an aqtarifa 'ala nafsi su'an aw ajurrahu ila muslim.

When to Read

This dua is incredibly powerful when you feel that familiar pang of self-doubt, especially if you suspect it's being amplified by external negative influences like the evil eye or envy. It's a proactive shield. Recite it when you notice yourself questioning your abilities, feeling inadequate, or when others' words or looks seem to cast a shadow on your confidence. Make it a habit, particularly in the morning and evening, or whenever you feel particularly vulnerable.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and firm conviction in Allah's power to protect you. It's best recited when you are alone and can focus, though it can be recited even when others are present if needed. Raise your hands slightly, as you would when making other duas, and blow gently onto yourself after reciting, as if expelling any negative energy. Visualize Allah's light surrounding and shielding you. Remember, the intention behind the dua is as crucial as the words themselves.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive supplication protects against internal doubts (the evil of oneself) and external evils (Satan and his whispers, or the ill effects of envy and the evil eye). By seeking refuge in Allah, you acknowledge His ultimate control and power, turning to Him as your sole protector. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to ward off all forms of harm, both manifest and hidden, ensuring that neither your own negative thoughts nor the malice of others can take root and cause you distress or lead you to harm another Muslim.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to seek refuge with Allah from the evil of himself and from the evil of Satan and from the evil of the evil eye. He would say: 'Bismillahi, a'udhu billahi min sharri nafsi wa min sharri-shaytani wa shirkihi wa an aqtarifa 'ala nafsi su'an aw ajurrahu ila muslim.' (In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in Allah from the evil of myself, and from the evil of Satan and his association, and from bringing evil upon myself or dragging it to a Muslim.)
