Dua to Seek Allah's Help Against the Effects of Envy (Hasad)

Evil Eye & Hasad
QuranQuran 113:1-5

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the dawn. From the evil of what He has created. And from the evil of darkness as it settles. And from the evil of those who practice witchcraft when they blow on knots. And from the evil of the envier when he envies.

Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem. Qul a'udhu bi-rab-bil-falaq. Min sharri ma khalaq. Wa min sharri ghasiqin idha waqab. Wa min sharrin-naffaathati fil-'uqad. Wa min sharri haasidin idha hasad.

When to Read

Recite this Surah regularly, especially in the morning and evening. It is a powerful protection against all forms of evil, including the envy of others that can affect one's spiritual practice, peace of mind, and overall well-being. When you feel the subtle or overt effects of someone else's envy – perhaps feeling a lack of motivation in worship, a sudden dip in your connection with Allah, or an unusual sense of unease – turning to these verses is highly recommended.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and conviction, focusing on the meaning of the verses and your reliance on Allah for protection. You can recite it once in the morning and once in the evening as part of your daily remembrance (dhikr). Some scholars also recommend reciting it three times each for morning and evening. Reflect on the power of Allah (the Lord of the dawn) and His creation, and how He is the ultimate protector against all forms of harm, including the destructive nature of envy.

Virtues & Benefits

This Surah, Al-Falaq, is one of the Mu'awwidhatayn (the two chapters of seeking refuge), revealed to protect the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ himself recommended reciting these Surahs for seeking Allah's protection. Reciting them is a direct way to invoke Allah's shield against the 'evil of the envier when he envies' (wa min sharri haasidin idha hasad), which can manifest as spiritual blockages, doubt, or a weakening of faith. It strengthens your spiritual resilience and reminds you that ultimate control and protection lie only with Allah.
