O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Mighty Throne. Our Lord and Lord of all things. The One who splits the grain and the date stone. The Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Quran. I seek refuge in You from the evil of all things You are seizing by their forelocks. O Allah, You are the First, and there is nothing before You. You are the Last, and there is nothing after You. You are the Evident, and there is nothing above You. You are the Hidden, and there is nothing nearer than You. Remove our debt and enrich us from poverty.

When to Read
This powerful dua is incredibly comprehensive and can be recited at any time for protection. It is particularly beneficial when feeling overwhelmed by negative influences, including the mental distress caused by envy or the evil eye. Reciting it in the morning and evening, as is the Sunnah for many protection duas, is highly recommended. You can also make it a habit to recite it during times of specific worry or when you feel your peace of mind is being disturbed.
How to Read
This dua emphasizes seeking refuge in Allah by acknowledging His supreme power and sovereignty over all creation. When reciting, reflect on the meaning: You are calling upon the Creator of the heavens and earth, the One who brought forth life from seeds, and the Revealer of divine guidance. Recognize that all things are under His control. The act of seeking refuge ('A'udhu bika') is an active plea for protection. Afterward, ask Allah to settle your debts and relieve you of poverty, understanding that these are worldly concerns which are easier to manage when your spiritual well-being is secure. Make this a heartfelt supplication.
Virtues & Benefits
While this specific hadith focuses on general seeking of refuge and relief from debt and poverty, its comprehensive nature means it serves as a potent tool against all forms of harm, including the mental and emotional turmoil caused by envy. By recognizing Allah's absolute control over everything ('anta akhidhun binasiyatih' - You are seizing by their forelocks), we acknowledge that no envy, however potent it may seem, can affect us without His permission. This dua helps to shift our reliance from ourselves to the Almighty, fostering inner peace and resilience. The mention of debt and poverty, while literal requests, also symbolize the burdens and limitations we feel; seeking Allah's relief from these inspires hope and trust in His ability to free us from any form of distress.

Narrated by Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): My uncle's son came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, he has said that I am envied.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Tell him to seek refuge in Allah from it.' The young man said: 'I have been envied.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Seek refuge in Allah and say: Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab'i wa Rabba al-'arshil-'adheem. Rabbana wa Rabba kulli shay'. Faliqal-habbi wan-nawa. Wa munzil at-Tawrati wal-Injeeli wal-Furqan. A'udhu bika min sharri kulli shay'in anta akhidhun binasiyatih. Allahumma Antal-Awwalu falaysa qablaka shay'. Wa Antal-Akhiru falaysa ba'daka shay'. The young man did this and his envy was removed. This wording is from Sahih Muslim.
