Dua to Seek Allah's Assistance Against Envy's Effects

Evil Eye & Hasad
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1370

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the demolition of my blessings, the change of my well-being, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that You detest. I seek refuge in You from destruction and ruin and extreme old age. I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow. I seek refuge in You from inability and laziness. I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess. I seek refuge in You from being overwhelmed by debt and the overpowering of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuj'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. A'udhu bika minal hadmi wad dami wal harami. A'udhu bika minal hammi wal hazan. Wa a'udhu bika minal 'ajzi wal kasal. Wa a'udhu bika minal jubni wal bukhl. Wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid dayni wa qahrir rijal.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful shield against various forms of spiritual and worldly harm. By seeking refuge in Allah from the 'demolition of blessings' and 'change of well-being,' we are asking Him to safeguard us from losing the good He has bestowed upon us, which can often be the result of envy. It also protects us from His displeasure and His punishment, ensuring we remain on the right path. The inclusion of seeking refuge from distress, sorrow, inability, laziness, cowardice, stinginess, debt, and oppression highlights its comprehensive nature for maintaining a strong and balanced spiritual and practical life, preventing envy from hindering our progress or corrupting our intentions.

Source & Authentication

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to seek refuge in Allah with these words: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuj'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. A'udhu bika min hadami, a'udhu bika min farashin, a'udhu bika min harqin, wa a'udhu bika min gharaqin. A'udhu bika min an atakhabbata al-shaytanu 'ala 'Arfat, a'udhu bika min an amuta fi halati khid'in. A'udhu bika minal hammi wal hazan, wal 'ajzi wal kasal, wal jubni wal bukhl, wa dal'id dayni wa qahri ar-rijal.' (The last part of the hadith has slight variations in wording in different narrations, but the core meaning remains the same.
