Dua to Neutralize the Impact of Envy (Hasad) and the Evil Eye

Evil Eye & Hasad
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2186

In the Name of Allah, I perform Ruqyah for you, from everything that harms you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye, may Allah cure you; in the Name of Allah, I perform Ruqyah for you.

Bismillahi arqika, min kulli shayin yu'dhika, min sharri kulli nafsin aw 'aynin hasidin, Allahu yashfika, bismillahi arqika.

When to Read

We often find ourselves working hard, putting in the hours, only to see our efforts seemingly unravel or our progress stall without a clear reason. This can be particularly disheartening when you're striving in your work or studies. This powerful dua is a shield against such unseen forces. Recite it when you feel a sudden lack of blessing (barakah) in your productivity, if projects face inexplicable obstacles, or when you simply want to safeguard your efforts from the subtle impact of hasad and the evil eye. It’s a wonderful practice to incorporate into your daily morning and evening adhkar, giving you a spiritual fortress throughout your day. Also, if you’re embarking on new endeavors or sharing your successes, reciting this dua beforehand acknowledges that all blessings come from Allah and protects them from envious gazes.

How to Read

Reciting this dua is more than just uttering words; it’s an act of deep reliance on Allah. When you say it, do so with **yaqeen** (certainty) in Allah’s power to protect and heal. Understand the profound meaning of each phrase: you are seeking refuge in the Creator from all harm, especially from the envy of others. For yourself, you can simply recite it. If you are performing it as a ruqyah for someone else – perhaps a child, a family member, or even a close friend struggling with the impact of hasad – it is from the Sunnah to place your hand on their head or the affected area as you recite, making dua with sincerity that Allah grants them ease and protection. Remember to maintain ritual purity (wudu) if possible, and let your heart be present.

Virtues & Benefits

The virtues of this dua are immense, stemming directly from its origin. When Jibreel (peace be upon him) recited it for the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, it showed us that even the best of creation sought and received divine protection from spiritual ailments. By regularly reciting this dua, you are: * **Invoking Allah's Direct Protection:** You are specifically asking Allah to safeguard you from the negative impacts of every evil soul and especially from the envious eye ('ayn hasid), which can subtly drain your energy and blessings. * **Following Prophetic Sunnah:** You are emulating the actions of the Prophet ﷺ himself, who not only received this ruqyah but also used similar wording to protect his own family. This brings immense reward. * **Preserving Your Blessings:** Hasad often manifests as a reduction in barakah. This dua is a spiritual barrier, helping to preserve the blessings Allah has bestowed upon your health, wealth, work, and productivity. * **Cultivating Inner Peace:** Knowing you are under Allah’s divine protection helps alleviate anxiety about others' envy, allowing you to focus on your efforts with a clearer mind and a more grateful heart. * **A Source of Healing:** The dua explicitly states, "May Allah cure you," indicating its power as a means of spiritual and even physical healing from the effects of envy.

Faqala, "Na'am." Qala, Bismillahi arqika min kulli shayin yu'dhika, min sharri kulli nafsin aw 'aynin hasidin, Allahu yashfika, bismillahi arqika.* > > — Sahih Muslim 2186 (Book 39, Hadith 38)
