Dua for Protection of Our Deeds from Hasad (Envy)

Evil Eye & Hasad
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2707

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that You are displeased with. And I seek refuge in You from the hardship of affliction, the attainment of misery, the evil of fate, and the rejoicing of enemies.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matika, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fuj'ati niqmatika, wa jami'i sakhatik, wa a'udhu bika min jahdil-balaa', wa darakish-shaqaa'i, wa su'il-qadaa'i, wa shamatatil-a'daa'.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is excellent for reciting daily, especially in the morning and evening. It's particularly pertinent when you feel your efforts or blessings are being targeted by envy, or when you fear that the fruits of your hard work might be undermined. Reciting it after Fajr and before going to sleep aligns with the Sunnah of seeking Allah's protection throughout the day and night.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a firm belief in Allah's power to protect. Raise your hands in supplication as you would during prayer. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, internalizing your reliance on Allah and His ultimate decree. It's best recited in a state of purity, facing the Qiblah if possible, though these are etiquette rather than strict conditions for acceptance.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful shield against many forms of harm, including the undermining effects of envy (Hasad) and the evil eye. By seeking refuge in Allah from the loss of blessings, the change in well-being, and sudden affliction, we are proactively protecting the positive outcomes of our deeds and efforts. The mention of seeking refuge from the 'rejoicing of enemies' directly addresses the desire of those who envy to see others fail. When our deeds are undermined by envy, it can feel like our enemies (including Shaytan and envious people) are rejoicing. This dua asks for protection from that very outcome.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to teach his companions these words as a means of seeking refuge in Allah. 'Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge with Allah from the severest of hardships and the most miserable of fates. He would say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that You are displeased with. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of affliction, the attainment of misery, the evil of fate, and the rejoicing of enemies.' [Sahih Muslim 2707]
