Dua for Protection of Blessings from the Evil Eye of Own Admiration

Evil Eye & Hasad
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5075

In the name of Allah, O Knower of the unseen and the seen, O Creator of the heavens and the earth, O Lord of all and Sovereign over it, I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from my soul, and from Shaitan and his شرك (associating partners with Allah, or his traps/deceit), and from bringing evil upon myself, or dragging it towards a Muslim.

Bismillahi, Allahumma 'alima al-ghaybi wash-shahadati, fatira as-samawati wal-ardi, Rabba kulli shay'in wa malikahu, ash-hadu an la ilaha illa Anta, a'udhu bika min nafsi, wa minash-shaytani wa shirkih, wa an aqtarifa 'ala nafsi su'an, aw ajurrahu ila muslimin.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is perfect for reciting daily, especially in the morning, to seek Allah's protection for oneself and one's blessings. It's particularly relevant when one feels proud of their achievements or possessions, or when they fear that their own admiration or the admiration of others might bring about a negative consequence (the evil eye). It serves as a constant reminder of our reliance on Allah and the need for His safeguarding.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely, with full conviction in Allah's power to protect. Understanding the meaning of each phrase will enhance its impact. Place your right hand on your chest while reciting, as this was a practice of the Prophet ﷺ when seeking refuge. Make it a habit, integrating it into your daily remembrance of Allah (dhikr).

Virtues & Benefits

This dua offers profound protection by acknowledging Allah's absolute knowledge and sovereignty. By seeking refuge in Him from our own souls (which can be prone to pride and arrogance) and from Shaitan's influence, we build a strong spiritual shield. It not only guards against external harm but also internal ailments of the heart, such as self-admiration that can lead to downfall. It also encompasses protecting other Muslims from any harm we might inadvertently cause. It's a holistic protection sought from the One who controls all affairs.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught us a supplication to make in the face of fear. He said: Recite: 'Bismillahi, Allahumma 'alima al-ghaybi wash-shahadati, fatira as-samawati wal-ardi, Rabba kulli shay'in wa malikahu, ash-hadu an la ilaha illa Anta, a'udhu bika min nafsi, wa minash-shaytani wa shirkih, wa an aqtarifa 'ala nafsi su'an, aw ajurrahu ila muslimin.' (In the name of Allah, O Knower of the unseen and the seen, O Creator of the heavens and the earth, O Lord of all and Sovereign over it, I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from my soul, and from Shaitan and his شرك, and from bringing evil upon myself, or dragging it towards a Muslim.) He said: 'Recite this when you wake up in the morning and when you go to bed at night, and when you lie down in your bed.'
