Dua for Protection from the Evil Eye When Witnessing Success

Evil Eye & Hasad
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2050

بَارَكَ اللَّهُ فِيكَ

May Allah bless you.

Barakallahu fīk

When to Read

When you see something you admire in a brother or sister, whether it's their wealth, their children, their health, or any other blessing from Allah. Reciting this dua helps to shield both you and them from the potential harm of the evil eye or envy, ensuring the blessing remains protected and increases.

How to Read

Recite this sincerely with the intention of seeking Allah's blessing for the person you are admiring. Utter it verbally, directing it towards the person or the object of admiration. It's a simple yet profound way to express your good wishes and protect against negative spiritual influences.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful shield against envy and the evil eye. By asking Allah to bless the person and their possessions, you are actively diverting any negative energy and transforming your admiration into a positive invocation. It fosters a healthy sense of brotherhood/sisterhood, where success is celebrated and protected by sincere prayer, rather than threatened by hidden envy. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that envy can indeed harm, but such blessings invoked through sincere dua can ward it off.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'If any one of you sees something from his brother that he likes, let him pray for blessing for him (Barakallahu fīk), for the evil eye is real.' (Sahih Muslim 2050). Another narration states, when Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about the evil eye, he said: 'When any of you gets dressed or gets a haircut or washes his camel, let him perform his ablution for it. That will remove his impurity. (This is not the evil eye). For the evil eye is when you like something in your brother and you pray for a curse upon him or his property.' When asked what to do if one of them can make his brother the object of the evil eye, he said: 'Let him say: O Allah, Lord of the heavens and the earth, Creator of the sun and the moon, no one in existence is like Me, so turn away from me the evil of the evil-doer and the envious.' (This is a longer hadith describing seeking refuge and asking Allah's protection). The specific phrase 'Barakallahu fīk' is directly linked to warding off the evil eye when witnessing something positive.
