بَارَكَ اللهُ فِيكَ
May Allah bless you.
Barakallahu feek
When to Read
This beautiful phrase is a response to witnessing something impressive or praiseworthy in another person – whether it's their appearance, their wealth, their children, or any other blessing from Allah. It's a way to acknowledge the blessing while simultaneously seeking protection for the person being admired, and yourself, from the potential harm of the evil eye (al-'ayn) or envy (hasad). Instead of just saying 'Mashallah' (which is also good!), this is a more direct way to invoke Allah's blessing.
How to Read
Say this sincerely when you see something wonderful in a fellow Muslim. It's meant to be spoken aloud, with good intention, to ward off any negative feelings or glances that might stem from admiration turning into envy. It’s a proactive dua, acknowledging the blessing and seeking Allah’s continued protection and increase for the person you are addressing.
Virtues & Benefits
By saying 'Barakallahu feek,' you are actively seeking Allah's blessing for the person you are speaking to. This action directly counteracts the negative potential of the evil eye and envy. It shows you recognize that all good things come from Allah and that you want those blessings to continue and increase for your brother or sister in faith, rather than wishing for their removal out of envy. It fosters a spirit of mutual well-wishing and protection within the Ummah.
