How to Read
Utter this phrase with sincerity and a genuine intention to seek Allah's blessing. It's a simple yet profound supplication that acknowledges Allah as the ultimate source of all blessings and protection. You can say it silently to yourself or softly aloud, especially if you are admiring something belonging to someone else.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a Sunnah practice prescribed by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to protect against the evil eye. By invoking Allah's blessing, you are essentially attributing the admirable quality to Allah's creation and asking Him to preserve it and protect it from any harm, including the unseen effects of envy or the evil eye (Al-'Ayn). It shifts the focus from mere admiration to seeking divine protection and acknowledging Allah's power.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Sahl bin Hunaif that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'If one of you sees something from his brother that he likes, let him pray for blessings for him (barakatu Allah 'alayh).' Muslim bin Al-Hajjaj then narrated: 'Humayd bin 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to me from Sahl bin Hunaif that he saw 'Amir bin Rabi'ah looking at Sahl bin Hunaif in the ghusl (bath) and said: 'I have never seen such a beautiful skin as this!' Upon this, Sahl fell down. The Prophet ﷺ was informed of this and said: 'Do you accuse anyone in particular? 'Amir bin Rabi'ah!' He said: 'Do you curse your brother?' Why don't you say: O Allah, bless it for him!' (Allahumma barik fih).'
