Dua for Protection from the Evil Eye of Unjust Rulers or Authorities

Evil Eye & Hasad
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5087

O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Mighty Throne, be my neighbor against the evil of the sky, the evil of the earth, the evil of the devils, the evil of every evil-doer, and the evil of every creature whose forelock You are seizing. Indeed, my Lord is on a straight path. O Allah, You are sufficient against what they do. Protect me from their evil as You wish.

Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab'i wa Rabba al-'arsh al-'adheem, kun li jaaran min sharri as-samaa'i wa sharri al-ardi, wa sharri ash-shayateeni, wa sharri kulli dhee sharri, wa sharri kulli daabbatin anta akhidhun binasiyatiha, inna Rabbee 'ala siratin mustaqeem. Allahumma anta ahadun bima yasna'oon, ihzinee min sharrihim bima shi't.

When to Read

This powerful supplication is particularly relevant when one feels threatened or oppressed by those in authority, whether they are unjust rulers, oppressive officials, or anyone wielding power unjustly. It can be recited when facing potential harm, unfair judgment, or the ill-will that might stem from those in positions of power, acknowledging that their actions, like anything else, are ultimately subject to Allah's decree.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and deep reliance on Allah. It is recommended to raise your hands slightly, as you would in other supplications, and to have a firm belief that Allah is the ultimate protector. Focus on the meaning of the words, understanding that you are seeking refuge in the Lord of all creation from all forms of evil, especially from the potential harm caused by those who have authority but lack justice.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua offers comprehensive protection. By invoking Allah as the Lord of the heavens, the earth, and the Mighty Throne, we are acknowledging His ultimate sovereignty over all things. Seeking refuge in Him from various evils – sky, earth, devils, evildoers, and creatures – covers all possibilities of harm. Specifically invoking protection from the evil of unjust rulers highlights the importance of seeking Allah's aid when facing oppression or the negative consequences of those in power misusing their authority. It reminds us that no matter how powerful a ruler may seem, they are ultimately accountable to Allah, who is on a straight path and can protect us from their wrongdoings.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Prophet ﷺ used to seek refuge in Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn, saying: 'I seek refuge in Allah's perfect words from every devil and every poisonous thing and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'This is how Ibrahim (Abraham) used to seek refuge with Allah for Isma'il and Ishaq (peace be upon them).' (Sunan Abi Dawud 3370). The dua provided in the main entry is a more extensive supplication for protection against oppressive rulers, reflecting a similar theme of seeking Allah's safeguard from harm.
