Dua for Protection from the Evil Eye of Suspicion

Evil Eye & Hasad
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1551

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, and from the evil of my sight, and from the evil of my tongue, and from the evil of my heart, and from the evil of my semen.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri sam'i, wa min sharri basari, wa min sharri lisani, wa min sharri qalbi, wa min sharri maniyyi.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua can be recited at any time, but it is particularly beneficial to say it upon waking, before starting your day, or whenever you feel vulnerable to negative influences, including the 'evil eye' that stems from suspicion and ill-will towards others, or vice versa.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, focusing on the meaning of seeking Allah's protection. Raise your hands slightly as you might do when making supplication. It is a personal plea to the Almighty, so speak from the heart.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication encompasses seeking refuge from the potential harm that can arise from our own senses and faculties – our hearing leading us to gossip, our sight envying or judging, our tongue speaking ill, our heart harboring ill-intentions, and our lower self causing trouble. By seeking refuge in Allah from these aspects, we protect ourselves from internal and external sources of harm, including the subtle evil eye that can manifest from suspicion and negative assumptions between people.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge with Allah from the evil of what he had created. He would say: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri sam'i, wa min sharri basari, wa min sharri lisani, wa min sharri qalbi, wa min sharri maniyyi.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, and from the evil of my sight, and from the evil of my tongue, and from the evil of my heart, and from the evil of my semen.)
