Dua for Protection from the Evil Eye During Exams

Evil Eye & Hasad
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2708

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the fading of Your favors, the turning of Your well-being, the sudden of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matika, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fuja'ati niqmatika, wa jami'i sakhatik.

When to Read

Recite this dua before starting your exam or test, especially if you feel anxious about the evil eye or the pressure of performance. It's also beneficial to recite it when feeling overwhelmed or when others are observing you closely, which can sometimes trigger the evil eye.

How to Read

Recite this sincerely with full conviction. Imagine Allah's protection surrounding you. It's best recited with a clear mind and heart, focusing on seeking Allah's refuge. You can also blow gently onto your hands and wipe over yourself after reciting it, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught in similar contexts of seeking refuge.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua seeks refuge from the loss of blessings, health, and protection, and from Allah's anger. By reciting it, you are actively asking Allah to shield you from any harm that may come from envy or the evil eye, which can manifest as unexpected difficulties or failures, even when you have prepared well. It helps to calm the mind and build reliance on Allah (Tawakkul).

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to seek refuge in Allah from the evil eye, saying: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matika, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fuja'ati niqmatika, wa jami'i sakhatik.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the fading of Your favors, the turning of Your well-being, the sudden of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure.) - Sahih Muslim 2708. Another relevant hadith mentions seeking refuge from the evil eye in general: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, 'The evil eye is real, and a man may be mounted on a camel or a horse and it may cause him to fall and die.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 5738, Sahih Muslim 2187)
