What Allah willed [has occurred]; there is no power except in Allah.
MashaAllah La Quwwata illa Billah
When to Read
When you observe something truly admirable, beautiful, or an act of profound generosity from another person, their family, or their possessions. This particular phrase is recited to prevent your own admiration or gaze from inadvertently causing harm through the 'evil eye' (al-ayn). By saying this, you humbly acknowledge that all blessings and power originate solely from Allah, thus deflecting any potential negative impact from your own appreciative gaze.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity, reflecting deeply on its meaning: that all good things are by Allah's will, and no power exists except His. You can say it audibly or silently to yourself. The intention behind it is to attribute the beauty or blessing you witness entirely to Allah's divine power, rather than to the creation itself. This act serves as a spiritual shield, transforming mere admiration into a humble recognition of Allah's grandeur.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting 'MashaAllah La Quwwata illa Billah' offers profound benefits, primarily safeguarding against the evil eye that can stem even from one's own positive admiration. It reinforces the fundamental Islamic belief that all strength, blessings, and beauty are entirely by Allah's will. The Prophet ๏ทบ emphasized the importance of invoking blessings when seeing something admirable, saying: "If one of you sees from his brother, or from himself, or from his wealth, that which he admires, then let him invoke blessings for it, for indeed the evil eye is true." (Sunan Ibn Majah 3509). This Quranic phrase serves as an excellent means to fulfill that prophetic instruction, redirecting praise and power to Allah and protecting the admired person or thing.

Amir bin Rabi'ah passed by Sahl bin Hunaif while he was performing ghusl. He said: 'I have never seen a hide (skin) like today, not even the hide of a virgin.' Sahl fell to the ground. He was brought to the Messenger of Allah ๏ทบ and it was said: 'Can you do anything for Sahl (who is sick)? By Allah, he cannot raise his head.' He said: 'Do you accuse anyone concerning him?' They said: 'Amir bin Rabi'ah.' So the Messenger of Allah ๏ทบ called Amir and was angry with him. He said: 'Why would one of you kill his brother? Why, if you see something you admire, do you not pray for blessings for him?' Then he said to Amir: 'Wash yourself for him.' So he washed his face, hands, elbows, knees, the ends of his feet and inside his izar (loincloth) in a vessel. Then that water was poured over him (Sahl), and a man poured it over his head and his back from behind. Sahl got up and went with the people and there was nothing wrong with him. โ Sunan Ibn Majah 3509
