بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا
In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in Allah from its evil.
Bismillah, a'udhu billahi min sharriha
When to Read
Recite this when someone gives you advice, a compliment, or makes a comment about something you have (e.g., your health, possessions, children) that you fear might carry the evil eye, especially if the advice feels unsolicited or is delivered in a way that feels intrusive. It's a way to seek Allah's protection before potential harm from an envious or unmindful gaze manifests.
How to Read
Recite 'Bismillah, a'udhu billahi min sharriha' (In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in Allah from its evil) when you feel a situation might be susceptible to the evil eye, particularly after receiving advice or a compliment that feels overwhelming or potentially harmful. This should be recited with sincere belief in Allah's power to protect. If you are able to address the person directly, you might also say this as a gentle reminder of Allah's protection.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a concise and powerful supplication taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for protection against the evil eye. It focuses on seeking refuge directly with Allah, acknowledging His power over all things, including the potential harm from the evil eye. By reciting it, one internalizes the belief that ultimate protection comes only from Allah, thereby safeguarding oneself from envy and ill-will that might be inadvertently or intentionally directed.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'If one of you sees something in his brother, or in himself, or in his wealth which impresses him, let him supplicate for blessing for it, for the evil eye is real.' In another narration, it is reported that if one of us notices something from his brother, or his slave, or his camel, he should say: بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا 'Bismillah, a'udhu billahi min sharriha' (In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in Allah from its evil). When 'Amir ibn Rabī'ah saw Sahl ibn Hunayf bathing naked, he said: 'O Allah, grant him from Your beauty!' And Sahl fell down. The Prophet (ﷺ) was informed of this and was told: 'Can you kill anyone by the eye?' So he rebuked him and said: 'Why would one of you kill his brother? If one of you sees something that amazes him, he should supplicate for blessing for it.' Sahih Muslim 2057
